Polaroid 7 inch tablet getting an Android 4.0 upgrade

A few months ago Polaroid introduced a line of tablets running Google Android 2.2 and Android 2.3. Now it looks like the company is getting ready to release a new model sporting Google’s latest software.
The Polaroid PMID701i showed up recently at the FCC website. It’s a 7 inch tablet with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While the operating system is new, the rest of the specs are pretty lousy. The tablet includes:
  • 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display
  • 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB storage
The good news is the PMID701i does feature a capacitive multitouch display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a microSDHC card for extra storage. Polaroid says the tablet should get up to 6 hours of battery life while surfing the web, or 5 hours while watching videos with WiFi disabled.
While the tablet sports Android 4.0 goodies such as a new tabbed web browser and user interface, it does not appear to be a Google certified device. It ships without the Google Play Store, and the user manual instead suggested downloading the Amazon Appstore in order to install third party apps.
There’s no word on the price for this tablet yet, but given the specs, my money would be on really, really cheap.
