Xiaomi, in Chinese it literally means grain or cereal, but Xiaomi Corp has nothing to do with Chinese food. In fact, it is a recently formed start-up business specializing in mobile apps founded in April 2010. After more than one year of fast development and expansion, its founder and CEO Leijun, officially released the Android powered Xiaomi phone in August 2011.
Although the phone has yet to be launched on the local market, many Chinese people are now rushing to preorder it on the official website, then expecting delivery in October.
In comparison with HTC Sina Weibo Phone, Meizu M9 and Samsung S5830, the Xiaomi phone not only impresses its competitors with a more competitive price tag at $310 but surpasses them in some specs.
The phone is equipped with a dual-core, 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 chip, which Leijun’s press release claimed would make the device the fastest Android smartphone ever! Not surprisingly, it also possesses a 4-inch 854×480 resolution capacitive touch screen, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, a spacious 1930mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel camera with support for GSM and a WCDMA radio.
The Xiaomi phone is intended to become the first mobile phone released by a Chinese company in China targeted specifically at an ever growing number of middle class consumers. To ensure its success, it clearly has some great selling points: its high quality construction and strong spec sheet, the distinctive iPhone-like styling – all at a competitively low price!
